We Need to Talk About Netflix & Nasty Gal

"Sophia, a misfit, discovers a passion for fashion, becoming an unlikely businesswoman in the process. As her business grows, however, she has to learn to cope with life as her own boss. This show is loosely based on the true story of Nasty Gal Founder, Sophia Amoruso." Is how Wikipedia describes the power-hungry, feminist inspiration, self-discovery Netflix Original show Girlboss. Britt Robertson leads, Johnny Simmons is the hunky boyfriend, and it also features RuPaul as a witty supporting character. Sounds perfect right? It was, for only ONE season!

Although described rather fondly as, "Rebellious and broke, Sophia stumbles into creating an online business and learns how to be the boss. A comedy inspired by the best-selling memoir." on Netflix, the show has since been cancelled after debuting in April.

When I saw an article of Robertson's reaction to the show being cancelled, I decided I needed to watch it for myself and needless to say I was hooked. Well, until the last three minutes of the second last episode, but don't worry it gets better. (no spoilers) So what happened to this show?

Written by Kay Cannon and produced by Charlize Theron, it had a chance but unfortunately this isn't the first seasick sailor. This is the third show to be cancelled, one of which (Sense8) rallied a fat petition to be continued but Netflix later released a statement:

Although, what's going to be next on the chopping block? Does the modern art, spiritually lost, gay boy get a boyfriend? Did her mother really, really appreciate that jacket? Why must you play with our heart strings Netflix?! BRB gonna binge read the memoir to enjoy Shane's punishment from our lovely, badass Sophia.

In other Netflix news, we are stoked for the second seasons of Riverdale and Stranger Things coming this October.
